Applying for Thai Citizenship Visa

     Any person, who wishes to apply for Thai Nationality must be, at least, a permanent resident of Thailand for 5 continuous years; have reached the age of 45; and to able to speak and understand Thai. An exception may be made to this rule if there is reasonable cause, such as marrying a Thai and having children born in Thailand, or having studied in a local university/college as an undergraduate. The processing takes 2 to 3 years.

     Any person, either born inside, or outside of Thailand and whose father, or mother has Thai nationality, is entitled to register his/her Thai nationality at the local district office where he/she wants to have his/her name registered in a house registration. He/she must submit various required documents.

Retirement Visa

     A Retirement Visa in Thailand is a Visa which allows you to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand without having to leave the country. You will be required to check in at the local Thai Immigration, near where you live, every 3 months, at no cost.

     You must have a valid Category Non-Immigrant Type O Visa, with at least 21 remaining days on the Visa, to be able to change to a Retirement Visa. This Visa will have to be renewed on a yearly basis and the same requirements would have to be shown every year.

Marriage Visa

     A Marriage Visa, in Thailand, is a Visa which allows you to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand and live with your Thai Wife, or Children. If you are under the age of 50 you would be required to have a Work Permit along with employment.

     If your household can prove that it is making the minimum of 40,000 baht per month, you would not have show a work permit. You will be able to support your family and your stay in the Kingdom.

Work Permits

     Most foreigners who intend to work in Thailand are subject to the Alien Employment Act. Working without a valid work permit, even for a day, is a criminal offence.

     The validity period of a work permit is governed by the holder’s immigration status, i.e. a work permit usually expires, on the last day of the period of stay allowed by immigration officials. You will also need to submit documents to help support you Non-Immigrant B or O visa.
